Danny Elfman once more teams up with Tim Burton on the soundtrack of the new Disney movie Alice In Wonderland. Having previously collaborated on 12 Burton movies including Charlie and the Chocolate Factor, Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride it was an obvious choice.
Now whilst having not yet seen the movie, you can tell immediately that the soundtrack is an integral part of the film, adding the right atmosphere for each scene. As you’d expect the opening track 'Alice’s Theme’ re-a appears in various guises throughout the score, adding depth along the way. Tracks like 'The Final Battle’ and 'Alice Escapes’ are epic numbers that build the tension with dramatic drums and horns, where as tracks like the Cheshire Cat’ really sum up the mystery, cunning and intrigue of the cat.
Obviously this will come into its own on the large screen, but even before then I can tell the music will be a strong part of the overall effect, even if the visuals do take centre stage.
