Stage Dolls come blistering out of Oslo and lay down some raunchy and powerful rock.
Listening to them you can see why they have been doing this for 25 years since their first album, they just do it right!
They cover all the bases; the raunch of ‘Always’ or the reflective AOR of ‘Rainin’ On A Sunny Day’, the bass laden strut of ‘Rollin’, they play with real panache and not a little talent.
These days the band consists of the original members Torstein Flakne on guitar and vocals and Terje Storli on bass and ‘new’ drummer Morten Skogstad and you can hear the years and the gigs in every number they lay down – this crew are tight.
They are strongest when they rock out but they ballad with the best and when they stray into Springsteen/Petty territory as on ‘When The Blacktop Ends’ or ‘Taillights’ they are terrific.
No single feature of the band sticks out, this is real ‘band’ stuff, but as an example of Norwegian rock they are pretty damn good and for lovers of JBJ or Europe theyt will hit the spot pretty hard.
