Soldier Of Love is Sade’s first official studio album since the multi-platinum release of Lovers Rock in 2000. So, 10 years on was it worth the wait? Well die-hard fans certainly think so, but will a whole army of new fans be gained by 'Soldier of Love’?

This is typical Sade, mellow, distinctive vocals, over a gentle musical accompaniment. Lead single, and title track 'Soldier of Love', is a good example of how Sade has occasionally moved musically with the times, but still retains her trademark sound. The near military beat is something you could almost expect (albeit beefed up) on a Rihanna album. However, these modern day acknowledgements are rare, with more tracks here that could easily be at home on 1984’s Diamond Life – perhaps this could be described as timeless?

That said, opening track 'The Moon and the Skies’ is a beautiful number with lush vocals over a gentle guitar. 'Babyfather’ has slight reggae tinge, and again this diversity works well. 'Be That easy’ has gentle C&W tones. 'Skin’ is a Massive Attack / EBTG styled track with stronger beats and dreamy vocals, but on the whole the album is full of gentle, mellow ballads with Sade’s vocals taking centre stage.

It's by no means ground breaking, and to be honest I don’t think Sade every will be, but what 'Soldier of Love’ does do is deliver songs with lush vocals and melodies that will satisfy her fans, and perhaps pick up a few new ones along the way.
