Splitting from the legendary Herman Dune in 2006 after the recording of 'Giant’, Stanley Brinks (Andre Herman Dune) has been working on various solo projects under numerous monikers – Ben Dope, Klaus Bong and Lord Stanislas to name a few. After his debut solo release 'Dank U’ last year, the Berlin based Stanley Brinks returns this time joined by London’s The Wave Picture for his new offering Stanley Brinks & The Wave Pictures released on Ciao Ketchup.
The new record is filled with guitar punctuated narratives from the autobiographical hippie love song 'Hi, Jane’ to the Neil Young inspired '39 Winks’. The Album takes you on a bizarre musical journey which leaves you feeling pretty fantastic. The pairing Of Stanley Brinks’ memorable lyrics with the musical accompaniment of Dave Tatersall, Jonny Helm and Franic Rozycki is epitomized in 'Keep Your Head High’. A surprisingly poppy and happy sounding track considering its content, the eventuality of Stanley’s death.
'Why The Martians Are Gone’ is the penultimate track which tells the humorous story of an unsuccessful martian invasion in which they encounter all the frustrations of the modern world. Franic Rozycki provides the martian vocals and joins Stanley Brinks in the catchy chorus 'This is not a good country for war'.
This album surprised me in that initially I was not all that impressed, with a point of entry difficult to find. But I have found the album to be a real grower and with each listen I am finding something else to put a smile on my face. I am sure this will gain him a load more dedicated followers and the song writing definitely deserves mainstream acknowledgment. Herman Dune fans will undoubtedly love it and I would urge anyone not in the know, to be in the know by picking up a copy.
