The Watermark E.P is the first effort from alt-folk artist The boy who trapped the sun before the release of his first album in the near future.

‘Listening’ is an all-round breathtaking first track. A beautiful blend of fast paced guitar, abstract, well written lyrics and edging on bleak but very strong vocals, it’s a track that demonstrates that folk music doesn’t always have to be slapped with a bland sticker. The excellence continues, as each track offers something a little bit different, without leaving Colin MacLeod's (Aka The boy who trapped the sun) comfort zone. His voice sings his well constructed lyrics in an almost pain stricken manor; with all the happiness of a tree trunk, but with complete and utter conviction in each and every song. Sometimes a little (sometimes a lot) Damien Rice-esc in his tones, his voice suites the music completely and, even though he’s not the most upbeat of folks, it portrays a tale of a man with a life complete with love, sadness and pain. Each track is equally as beautiful and compelling as the next, leaving this four track wonder an inspiring and distinctive listen. A fantastic effort that deserves a whole lot of attention, and I very much look forward to the album in the near future.
