'Alexander' is the 2nd single to be released from Charlotte Hatherley's forthcoming third album 'New Worlds' and sees the former Ash guitarist in honest, probing, confident form. Opening with a sound that recalls Amy Millan or even Joni Mitchell, the song floats along admirably before unravelling a popfectious hook while questioning the sincerity of the Alexander character named. It's an arms to query, a wonder of whether the one in mind is whom they appear to be. Those fears, the hopes, the unknown. 'I wanna know you, listen Alexander, show me what kind of dreaming you do behind your innocent eyes.' It's clearly an important time for Charlotte both on a professional and personal level.
As the pace increases we are reminded not only of Charlotte's diversity in influence, but her flexibility as a singer songwriter, prompting thoughts of Ida Maria and even Jemina Pearl. It's not a track to blow minds but a lot happens in nearly 4 minutes and it's well worth a listen.
