Paul Steel of Brighton fame is an intriguing character with an interesting past. After gigging frequently in 2007 including shows at Fiji Rock and V Festival amid critical acclaim for his debut EP 'April & I', Steel's rise quickly ended, with him somewhat falling off the radar. But while playing in fellow Brighton band Stars and Sons his solo persona has grown once again, resulting in new single 'In A Coma'.

Despite hopes, the track is a little disappointing. It's upbeat piano lead is engaging but the lyrics grate somewhat and put simply it fails to inspire. Suggesting The Beach Boys lecturing The Shins there is reason to be interested and in Steel's voice it it has its moments, but in general it's lacking something that maybe more time will bring. With praise aplenty for his forthcoming album though let's see what that offers before we send him off the radar again.
