Ella Guru

Ella Guru an eight piece band formed in Liverpool under the helm of lead singer and songwriter John Yates release ‘Park Lane Speakers', a single on Banana Recordings.

The song's feel is typical of Lambchop with a seductive low-key instrumental backdrop to the languid, deep vocals. There is definite care and attention in the performance but the song itself is basically very average. There was no ‘out of body' experience for me and even on repeated listens I still can't get a groove for it. There maybe some interesting things to come however from the Ella Guru camp and I'll definitely be on the look-out but this one stays on the shelf.
