Sneaky Pete’s is Edinburgh’s smallest and sweatiest venue, providing one of the many homes for this year’s brilliant
Edge Festival throughout August. Sneaky Pete’s will see a fine array of musicians play it’s stage: Lost in Audio, Sparrow and the Workshop, Woodenbox with a Fistful of Fivers, Ross Clark, Alex Cornish, and The Debuts to name just a couple. Tonight, recent FatCat signing and very popular local act
We Were Promised Jetpacks sell out Sneaky Pete’s for their Edge Festival acoustic performance.
Supporting We Were Promised Jetpacks are Airship, a very loud and outstanding act. The vocals are clean and simple, leaving an audience hanging on every song fluttering from the stage. Airship are very easy to listen too, a band without musical complications, nor a track to turn your nose up at. Airship provide such a brilliant set that, quite frankly, the only band who could top it are headliners themselves We Were Promised Jetpacks.
We Were Promised Jetpacks’ frontman Adam Thompson performs an acoustic, solo version of album leader 'It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning’ to kick off the show. Although tonight’s show has donned the title of 'acoustic’, Adam is soon joined by the rest of his band, their instruments and a couple of extra musicians to add to the legacy.
Adam’s vocals are the force that propels We Were Promised Jetpacks into the limelight; loud and accented like an unnatural force. Adam is wary of his powerful vocals in the delicate Sneaky Pete’s, hovering a little away from the microphone but still providing that incredible sound. Adam’s voice is teamed with Jetpacks famous jaunty electric sounds and a sweet violin: this juxtaposition of electric, acoustic and strings gives songs from recent album 'These Four Walls’ a gentle and irresistible twist.
The great set from We Were Promised Jetpacks tonight is one of many gigs from Edinburgh’s Edge Festival. This year’s Edge Festival, will see a plethora of great names headlining around the city: Biffy Clyro, Frightened Rabbit, The Streets, Broken Records, Amanda Palmer and Ian Brodie to name but a couple.
