Much like a hard rock version of the 'Now ,.’ Series, the Kerrang! Albums of the year are a great sampler of a point in time, full of good memories and often alerting you to artists you might have missed otherwise.
Don’t ever mistake them as the be all and end all of the rock biz in 20xx but as a good version of a personal mixtape they are fine.

The Album ’09 really does touch on some of the class of the last twelve months: Green Day, My Chemical Romance, You Me at Six, Slipknot, The Prodigy and Enter Shikari all give sterling examples of the best of rock in 2009 while some of the others – notably Paramore, In Case Of Fire and Rolo Tomassi – represent a real pointer to future glories.

There are also some that I cannot see in the same company – great bands in their own right but don’t feel right here – in bands like Gallows, DevilDriver or The King Blues whose individuality seem to set them apart from the class of the year.

42 tracks and some real gems included mean that you have to excuse the sameness of some of the artists and the fact that there is a certain amount of filler and embrace the numbers you want and the bands that really are the class here.
