Two of the great old stagers of British rock getting together to produce an album that is sumptuous and far ranging in its scope and meaning.

The title refers to painting and sculpture and the 14 numbers here are ‘musings’ on the likes of Rodin, Millais Wallis and even Michelangelo and ,thanks to the standards of both the musicians, it avoids the obvious clichés and presents 14 very individual numbers with a common sound but unique scope.

Wakeman is a superb pianist/keyboard player, often derided for his Prog excesses but he demonstrates here that he has a real lightness of touch almost ‘skittish’ feel at times. That is balanced brilliantly by Giltrap’s guitar work and I must admit to some surprise at just how well he plays.

In the end the only thing missing here is the images that the songs are based around which might have allowed even greater appreciation of their creation but it can be listened to in isolation and therein lies the strength of the album.
