I have to be honest and say that I have never been completely convinced by Papa Roach – but I suspect that deep down they have never really committed to either power-pop or hard rock and that is where my ambivalence hails from.
That having been said, ‘Lifeline’ is actually a very superior Hard-Pop crossover and probably sits as the best thing they have done for yonks.
You get 4 minutes of highly melodic rock with some fine playing and a real anthemic feel to it.
There is a real sense of purpose to the song and to the production and Jacoby Shaddix’ vocals are standing up well.
All round a really solid single and if the rest of the album – ‘Metamorphosis’ – stands up this well it will be a good listen too.
