'The Boy Does Nothing’ is probably not what most people were expecting from Alesha Dixon, the emcee of former girl group, Mis-teeq. IT’s the first single from her new album 'The Alesha Show’ and features none of the old garage/rap style that she was originally known for. It’s an up-tempo, dancey track with a mambo flavour that really capitalises on her successful turn on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Alesha describes the song herself as 'bottled happiness' and you can tell from the moment it kicks in that she is enjoying singing this one. She has a good voice, far better than a lot of other emcee/rappers out there and here she has created a song that can not only keep her original fan base who are now a few years older, but also will build on the new fan base which she has earned through her ballroom dancing exploits. It’s the sort of song you can imagine a lot of girls dancing around their living rooms, singing away to the lyrics and having a great time, but will men enjoy it as much? While I’m sure a lot of guys will pretend they hate it, it’s one of those which will undoubtedly get stuck in your head, as the catchy chorus repeats over and over.

All in all, Alesha’s tale of a guy trying to impress her with his dance moves is a lively and impressive effort, which does exactly what it is supposed to do and that’s make you happy and make you want to get on your feet and dance, and that is probably exactly what you’ll do when this track comes on at the next party you attend. Women will love it, men will pretend not to, but everyone will know that Alesha is more than just an ex-girlband member gone solo.
