Cornershop have had their highs and lows and are now on the verge of releasing their 5th album. This double A-side serves as the curtain-raiser for this long awaited album from this once Mercury-nominated band.
Both tracks on this double A-side see Tjinder Singh taking a back seat with the sexy Bubbley Kaur flexing her vocal chords for the first time.
Not being of Punjabi descent the lyrics are totally meaningless to me but this cunningly allows me to create my own Bollywood images as my eyes slowly close.
In the first track ‘Topknot' I see the olive skinned and beautiful Bubbley Kaur beckoning for me across wide-open fields, gently teasing me to join her in a Punjabi dance. Her arms raised provocatively above her head and wearing next to nothing … I open my eyes and find myself sprawled across the Piccadilly line seat, a packed trains glare upon me. I regain my composure and get off at the next stop even though I'm not home yet. I breathe deeply and feel the need to quench my thirst … and work out a new route home.
A summer time tune if I have ever I heard one and it could be the only summer we get.
