So Daron Malakian, the somewhat manic guitarist of SOAD fame has followed the path to solo success already tread by band mate Serj Tankian. Unlike Serj Tankian who went it alone, Daron has brought drummer John Dolmayan along for the ride.

'They Say' is the lead single off Scars of Broadway’s new self titled album. The first question must be, is it any good? The answer is a resounding yes. It’s bloody good. The central riff is simple yet satisfying, like a greasy bacon sandwich caked in tomato sauce after a heavy night making merry with your locals beer-tap(s).

Question number two; what does it sound like? For those incessant idiots who cant get past the fact that these guys used to be in SOAD, you’ll be thrilled to know this sounds nothing like it, its more straight forward rock n roll that does away with the intricacies and eccentricities that SOAD thrived on. This is a good thing, it would have been a shame to see someone of Daron’s talent trying to regurgitate SOAD.

The great thing about Scars on Broadway, apart from the music obviously, is that Daron has lost none of his bite. The scathing social commentary so prevalent in both SOAD is just as much at the forefront of 'They Say'.

So in summary, if you loved SOAD and only want more SOAD, this will probably do for you what God did for those Egyptian first born. If you loved SOAD and are not bound by stupidity, this will rock you senseless. If you didn’t like SOAD, you’re an idiot. Give this a go, you require all the help you can get to redeem yourself.
