South London rapscallions The Metros are young, feisty and ready to kick your arse into the next musical age. It was with trepidation and a sense of impending doom that Music News approached a band about to break big on the currently limp music scene.

How did the band form?

Well me (Charlie the bass player), Freddie (the drummer) and Joe the guitarist all met at school. And Fredi lived at the bottom of Jaks garden... so it was only a matter of time before we ran into each other. It just amazing there wasn’t to much bloodshed at the first confrontation!

We saw you play live at Islington Academy supporting the Pigeon Detectives and you all seemed to be loving playing live, what is a typical Metros gig like for you?

Yeah yeah that’s what it is about... the "good" live shows are the best thing about being in a band. I think if you enjoy the gig and all go fucking nuts on stage the crowd pick up on it and they all usually start to follow suit.... but definitely as a band I think we're energetic on stage but that’s because we enjoy playing the songs and enjoy having a good gig.

Which are your favourite songs to play live?

I think the best live songs are... Every other Tuesday and Live a little.

We have started to play a new song now which is really good so we will have that for the festivals and that’s a real laugh to play.

What did you think of The Pigeon Detectives?

They’re really nice blokes. Personally I am not to sure about the songs but I hear the new album is very different; I will give that a listen. I do think they’re a good live band though.. And the tour with them was really good.

What bands do you take inspiration / influences from?

We have a big range of influences.... STIFF RECORDS in general.. some punk: rancid, crass... some funk: Maceo Parker, George Clinton...some rock and roll and psychobilly shit like King Kurt and the Cramps stuff. Everything really. The best of any type of music is pretty good.

You were previously called The Wanking Skankers why change the name and who thought of The Metros?

We didn’t think the Wanking Skankers was a particularly commercial name so we thought of something inside the box.... something boring, we came up with the metros and it stuck. That’s it.

You recently outed Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong for being gay, can you elaborate on that?

It’s because of that image they have, them and One Night Only... all cheekbones and hairspray... what’s that about? Where’s the fucking music Joe Lean?

Who would you most like to have sex with?

Amy Winehouse, Vita von Tease, the Queen, Fern Briton, and Lisa Riley.

What can we expect from the debut album?

The album we think its amazing... no, it has quite a range of genres on it. Alot of varied ideas so I think it makes for quite an interesting listen. Well we like to think so anyway. Well it’s all done now so its just a matter of time.

What are your three favourite songs on the album?

My 3 favourite songs on the album are: Creps for Christmas, Ra Ra Roland and Every Other Tuesday.

What festivals are you playing?

We are doing loads of festivals this summer. Reading Leeds Glasto T in the Park... and some smaller ones Z008 Beachbreak, Summersonic in Japan and some others I’m not sure myself yet.

What does the future hold?

Who knows what the future holds for us prosperity and millions of record sales hopefully.. fingers crossed.
