Emerging as the newest darlings of the trans-atlantic music scene, Florida’s Black Kids, fronted by the Youngblood siblings (Reggie and Ali), mix an infectious blend of upbeat pop. This debut single bursts from the traps with youthful energy and a mature head. Reggie belts out a rejoiceful chorus with Cure like urgency and a smile inducing 60’s groove. Delightfully produced by ex Suede guitarist, Bernard Butler, 'I’m Not Gonna,’ is expansive when it needs to be, and playfully dynamic.
Rolling Stone magazine took note after the Jacksonville quintet placed a four track EP, The Wizard of Ahhhs, on their Myspace site (which included the current single). And in the few short months since, aided by supporting Kate Nash on tour, UK audiences are rapidly becoming acquainted with their hybrid 60s-New Wave beat.
Their debut album, also with Mr Butler on board, is due for completion in the summer. But for now, enjoy their happy-vibe debut single.
