The original rock god collaborating with country blues grass diva? Throw in legendary guitarist T Bone Burnett to orchestrate and produce the sessions? That just seems like an imaginary self-indulgent dream.

This dream has come to life in the form of Raising Sand, the new album from Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. The only self-indulgence here, however, is for the music fan as the outcome is a brilliant blues album with a twist.

Krauss, with her sweet, faultless vocals tame Plant’s hard rock voice. Plant’s voice then adds some attitude back to Krauss. This really is a match made in rock n roll heaven and leaves you wondering what took them so long.

From the quiet bluesy songs 'Rich Woman’ and 'Stick With Me Baby,’ to the more rock n roll 'Gone Gone Gone’ and 'Please Read The Letter,’ there is something for both stars’ fans to relate to.

With both singers slightly out of their element, the effect for the listener is quite remarkable. An atmospheric dreamscape is the end result on this highly enjoyable album.

It’s clear that Plant and Krauss have learned from each other and set aside any egos to make the best album possible. Let’s hope they don’t stop here.
