Scouting for Girls (a pun on the scouting manual called Scouting for Boys) are a trio of cheeky chappies whose indie pop ditties are hard not to warm to.

Their gig at Kings College London last Friday night was a first introduction (for myself at least) to a half hour or so of observations, lamentations and pokes at the trials and tribulations of life.

I didn't quite know what to expect before they came on and even though they were more 'Chas n Dave' than indie-pop, I couldn't help but feel happy when listening to their music.

They sang about 'wanting to be Bond for the day'- (a nice admission since every man does) and that 'she was getting to 30 and a little bit dirty!'

It seemed that, to this small but devout crowd of mainly woman, they could do no wrong.

Roy Stride on keyboard and lead voclas is a storyteller that captures your imagination and attention with his genuine sincerity and expression. And the band who have been life-long friends works well together.

Even though they are weren't quite my cup of tea, I felt myself humming latest single 'Isn't she lovely' on the tube back home.

Support act 'Zutalors'(french for 'gosh!') (who I mistakingly thought were the lead act) filled the room with driving guitar riffs and soaring (almost falsetto) vocals from Tom Eccleshall. They are a great mix of Coldplay and Embrace but bring their own elements to the table which make them completely stand-out.

I would love to hear more stuff from this band.
