'I bet you were getting high with your hairdresser last night.’ I cannot manage to get this quite evocative hook from the song 'hairdresser’ by Superthriller out of my head. It’s floating there, over the bowl of cornflakes, my midday run, before the lights go out. The only problem is that the vocal hook is an octave too high for me to sing so when my mental thoughts are extended to my vocal chords, I get obscure looks from friends or passers-by, resulting in awkward apologies and such.

Superthriller were born in 2000 by brothers Ben and Max Ringham along with Andrew Roland resulting in debut album Superthriller 1 in 2005. It was the mighty Beck who picked up the album on his travels and so impressed he was, that they were invited to tour that summer on his European tour.

Well now we have the arrival of Superthriller 2, full of the eclectic eccentricities of Beck, the early years funkability of Prince, the disco beat of Brothers Johnson and melody of 70’s Elton John. It all comes together in a really intriguing and appealing way along with some real funny twisted lyrics.

High points are the 'Benny and the Jets’ driven 'I Love You’, the hilarious funk of 'Superthriller Motherfucker’, the cool sparten arrangement of 'The Duality of Man’, 'Pop goes the Captain’ which sounds like Donald Fagan on acid, and a Randy Newman styled piano led blues of 'Cranky’.
It’s been a while I heard an album which has soul, really grooves and is funny.

This only leaves me to wonder if, you were getting high with your hairdresser last night?
