Pacha is one of world's leading club franchises, incorporating a host of nightclubs, hotels and stores in many global locations. It's a well marketed brand that stands for funky glamour, hedonism and party Iiving.
My Fairytale is night that runs every 4th Friday night of the month at Pacha London and it's an extension of this brand promising 'a magical trip through sexy, dirty, funky house'.
So with my expectations set quite highly, on entering the doors I couldn't help feeling a little underwhelmed; This was my first time here, and I had images of a luxurious and decadent bar, but on first impressions it has the look and feel of a converted ballroom hall - not quite what I was expecting. The building is clearly quite old, and there is a fair bit of scruffy wooden panelling that, in my opinion, doesn't live up to the sleek, modern image portrayed by the Pacha branding. One thing that the reputation certainly lived up to is the price; At £4.50 for a bottle of Stella, Pacha is not a cheap place.
But then it doesn't need to be - as we entered it was obvious the beginning of the night was already hotting up. My Fairytale attracts a hip, stylish, good-looking bunch who enjoy making the effort on a Friday night.
A well-chosen assortment of funky, danceable but accessible house tunes were warming things up nicely. As the night progressed, the DJs worked the crowd well introducing slightly tougher electro house tunes and edging the truly awesome Pacha sound-system close to Ministry of Sound levels. As midnight struck, and with dancefloor now packed with everyone in full swing, sexy scantily-clad dancers adorned the podiums accompanied by impressive sweeping lasers creating a real Ibiza-like atmosphere. This was the modus operandi for the rest of the night, with the dancefloor staying packed until the early hours.
My Fairytale @ Pacha is a quality night - If you enjoy getting glammed up, dancing to some well known funky house tunes and you don't mind the drink prices, It's definitely worth checking out.
