The NME tour stopped at the Shepherds Bush Empire, where there was a line-up that could have easily been accepted at any festival, with the young knives headlining the night and sets by Datarock, Foals and Rumblestrips!
Foals played a gig for the All Age Concerts two days before and certainly wowed the youth there so quite a few faces from that particular gig were there tonight to witness these fantastic aggression fuelled punksters. With the guitars firmly attached to them, encouraging them to express their aggressive side without having to deal with excessive guitar movement, they graced the stage with some superb energy and passion fuelled guitar play and a sterling performance by their impressive drummer.
The early signs suggested it was going to be one of the usual Monday night dull gigs and for the FOALS set it certainly was, as they went through some of their superb tracks, including the popular hummer and balloons, the crowd, bar the handful at the front did not seem intent on embracing this performance, probably due to the fact that they were a fairly new band whom they knew little about, or it was just a typical Monday feeling. Midway through their set though, there was a feeling the crowd realised this was a classy and very professional set they were being subjected to thus repeated applause showing appreciation throughout the rest of their set.
Datarock the hoodie wearing dance rave supremos were in full flow and encouraged some dancing amongst the 'Moody Monday crowd' with the hilariously named tracks; sex me up and I used to dance with my daddy and the Rumblestrips also preformed to the crowd for half an hour.
Foals are currently touring the country and doing gigs with the young knives and on the vice tour that includes the Noisettes, Kid Harpoon and Fear of flying so catch them before they get too big.
