Not having seen a gig at the Borderline for a while it was a pleasure again walking down the dimly lit stairs to the welcoming bar offering £2 pints of Strongbow. It was unusual for me to get to a venue this early but the happy hour rewards are there for the eager music lover. You also get to see the support bands which in tonight’s case was a real bonus.
The solo Dave House interrupted the Sam Duckworth (aka Get Cape Wear Cape Fly's) dj set with a Billy Braggesque set before Tellison got things really moving. A Hammersmith based 4-piece you could liken them to current Welsh glory seekers The Automatic or a revamped Weezer. Their multi-facetted vocal delivery and zest for playing live instill a sense of uninhibited well being and come highly recommended.
When much hyped three-piece Dartz! finally took to the stage they began to dispense their brand of tight indie pop. From first single, the catchy 'St Petersburg’, to the infectious 'Prego Triangolos' "You have three sides, but you're not a triangle, you have three sides, but you are a square!" Dartz! Gave it their all. Spikey guitar hooks half way between the Arctic Monkeys and The Futureheads ultimately delivered as promised but the name on my lips on leaving was support band Tellison, well worth checking them out.
