This is not everyone’s stein of tea. Or stein of beer for that matter. But if it is, you’re in for a treat.

Meaning 'transmission interference’, Funkstorung are a techno duo from Rosenheim, Germany. Christian de Luca and Michael Fakesch have released five full length albums since first meeting in 1992, and their latest offering ' Appendix ' represents their auf wiedersehen to each other as due to 'musical, practical and personal differences', they’re going onto respective solo projects.

Their particular brand of 2007 'Musik aus Strom’ represents a typical rhythmical coming together of their hip hop and heavy metal backgrounds, and on what looks to be their final album, they meld the two together with electro/glitch signatures in crafty style.

As on past records, like 'Disconnected’, they go to the familiar Louise Rhodes of Lamb pedigree and sprinkle her subtle tones all over their jerky samples. Bjork’s version of 'All Is Full Of Love’ is the show stealer though, her eclectic feel for the atmosphere of a track another string to her bow. Barry Adamson and The Raveonettes also feature, their track bristling with Fifth Element type energy, and like on the rest of the album find hip hop rhythms overlaced with glitchy, electro monikers.

If you dig this sort of sound, then it’s as finished as it gets, but if you don’t get it, you’d rather sprinkle your bathtub with sauerkraut and bathe in it. Nevertheless, Funkstorung give an extremely accomplished 'tchues’ to each other, which frankly is a terrible shame.
