This rowdy, clamorous single is from Bromheads Jacket, a band seemingly surfing onto the wave of Arctic Monkey type Brit bands making an impact on the mainstream, with regional accents, off-kilter lyrics and observations on UK life all in check. The three piece band are even from Sheffield, and although every band loathes to be labelled or mentioned in sentences with other bands its worth acknowledging this wave is more of a tsunami, and tsunamis tend to wash up debris as well as hidden treasures.
But this isn’t giving the band enough credit, because Bromheads Jacket's sound, aided by Tim Hampton's wayward semi-drunken-sounding vocals and Jono West's and Dan Potter's furious pace, is more of a punk-fuelled attack on the senses than a indie sing-a-long. It’s heavier than most of the chart-friendly acts, with 'Lesley Parlafitt’ concerning itself with escaping the dregs of a "little town" when "there’s a big big world to see, but you’re so scared to leave", which is a welcome change from generic relationship blues. This single, and this band are surely made for sending a sweaty crowd in a dingy little club wild; it might be worth trying on for size.
