SK2 is the second album release from Simple Kid after a hiatus of 3 years. An interesting and eclectic body of work it is too with various styles of songs back to back, ranging from Howie Beck to Beck, in it’s variability, with some early Led Zep thrown in.
All songs are written, performed and produced by Simple Kid and recorded mainly at home( with mixing then done in the studio) and it’s the simplicity and aura of this contained environment which catalyses the songs and gives the album a vulnerable core. There are no outstanding songs but the album flows and each play prompts a different song to the fore with 'You’ being my favourite of late.
He’s apparently opened for Richard Ashcroft and Erasure in their UK tours so even if the jump to 'live’ performance of these songs may be difficult, I am very much intrigued.
All in all, well worth checking out this kid simple.
