Shuffle by name shuffle by nature. My Friends Girlfriend is a raggedy punk shanty with a smattering of electro pop hip hop trying to break beat out. Seamus Hayes' vocals are endearing in a desperado charicature manner, with tales of life, love and excess. There's a bucket load of influences in the musical pot, all set to a loose jazz drum shuffle - so loose in fact that I would've demanded it be re-recorded, but perhaps that adds to its charm. The equally as bonkers sound of An Old Uprising completes the double A release.
The seven piece, headed by Hayes and Monica Yam have honed their unique set on the London circuit culminating in winning both the XFM unsigned band competition and the Diesel-U-Music awards. Now is their time to bang on a few more ears and let the world know they exist. With this quirky release as evidence, Shuffle might just make the grade. Watch their space.
