Rising stars Basht took the Foundry by storm, with a set packed full of alternative rock and post-punk tunes from their debut album ‘Poor Advice’, which was released this month.

Arriving at the venue, the queue waiting for the doors was snaking out the door, with fans decked out in Basht merch and Irish football t-shirts. When the doors opened, gig-goers flocked in to bag themselves a good spot for the show.
The lights went down and the stage lit up as the band made their way out one by one, evoking cheers and chanting from the crowd.

Basht kicked off this Sheffield set with one of their fan favourites, ‘Kiera Knightley', which was released in June this year, ahead of the album. This was the perfect song to kick off a set with, a track packed with undeniable energy that becomes even more infectious live and sharp riffs that were coursing through the heart of the venue.

The energy only increased from here as Basht launched into their next track, 'Perfume'. This is one of their most post-punk tracks, with this rippling base that delves into atmospheric instrumentals, and you could see how much fun the band were having playing this, giving everything to their instruments and laying it all out on the stage.

A highlight for me included one of the fan favourites and one of Basht’s earlier alt-rock tunes, ‘Terror TV’. The drums are so prominent in this track, but the instruments blend so well together, complementing each other. It was probably the most vocally pleasing of the whole set. This one particularly got the crowd moving and moshing, as well as belting out every line arm in arm with mates.

Basht closed their album with two very versatile songs, the first being ‘Circadia’, which has this tense building intro with a steady drumbeat that literally feels electrifying, and the second, which starts slow and steady, before delving into this heavy breakdown rock, and the Irish accent vocals complement the sound.

What a terrific night with a band that are definitely ones to watch.
