One of the most exciting emerging artists in the indie scene nowadays, Chloe Slater has released her latest single, ‘I’ve Never Felt So Hated’.
‘I’ve Never Felt So Hated’ is centred around the all too relatable online toxicity, mental-health fallout from the ever-growing short-form media, and the way snap judgements on the internet can distort a person’s sense of self and confidence.
The song is accompanied by a fabulous music video by Bonnie MacRae which visually enhances the song’s themes of the distortion in the media and emotional turmoil this brings. Slater reportedly said it’s one of her favourite videos she’s made.
‘I’ve Never Felt So Hated’ opens with a sound that can only be described as the epitome of dread, moving seamlessly into this alt-crisp drumbeat.
As Slater’s vocals enter the chat, her style is generally to start out stripped back, almost in a storytelling way, setting the scene, before hitting the chorus where she launches in and demonstrates the power she possesses. The chorus cuts deep with Slater acknowledging the impact social media has, while also acknowledging her rational thinking about how fake social media can be: "At least I’m not living on lies."
When the bridge hits, the indie rock instrumental slightly strips back with just a strum of the bass, as Slater’s vocals are forced into centre stage as she sings, “I’ve never felt so hated in my life / For trying to do what's right.
The track serves as a real-life warning about how much of a negative impact social media can have on society and fits in with Slater’s signature style of discussing issues in internet culture and the effect it has on her personally.
This is the fourth single from Riot Youth, which is set to be released 9 October 2026. Slater also embarks on a UK-wide tour in November and December.
