When Kim Simmonds formed Savoy Brown, back in 1965, they instantly became one of the favourite Blues and Boogie around the UK Blues scene. Over the years, they went through many, many, lineup changes, but always Kim Simmonds at the centre.
This collection covers 15 years of the band. A long way after their peak popularity but with no reduction in Kim Simmonds fiery guitar or his gruff vocals. Even at the moment of his death in 2022, he was an awesome guitarist.
Essentially, much like George Thorogood or Status Quo, there is a sound here that lives in every track. Power Blues guitar, maximum fuzz and sterling slide work.
No matter who the other musicians are, Simmonds only selected the very best sidemen, and there isn’t a track here that sounds pedestrian.
From the power Blues of ‘Going Down To Mobile’ or his hi-speed instrumental ‘Flat Out’ or the monstrous 12 bar ‘I Don’t Remember You’, it Is all enormously easy to listen to.
‘Too Much Of A Good Thing’, a previously unreleased live track, is a perfect example of why Savoy Brown were so popular for so long.
12 bar Boogie and Blues and probably one of the best examples you’ll hear.
