Hailing from Wigan, Montello are a four-piece indie rock band quickly carving out a name for themselves. Since forming in late 2023, they’ve wasted no time refining their sound and building momentum, landing spots at major showcases like The Great Escape, Isle of Wight, and Tramlines by summer 2025. With their debut EP dropping in April 2025 and a string of sold-out shows at iconic venues like The Deaf Institute, the band’s rise has been hard to ignore.

We caught up with them after their supporting slot with The Slates to find out what's next!

So, how do we think the set went?
Montello: Really good. Yeah, really good. Apart from one of us banging our head on the wall.

Yeah, what happened there?
We got a bit too giddy. It happens, we’re a bit silly.

Where are you all from then?
Montello: Bit of a mix. Some of us are from Manchester, some from Wigan, from St Helens. Wigan’s kind of our middle ground.

What’s your creative process like?
Montello: There isn’t really a set one, it comes from everywhere. Sometimes someone brings in lyrics, then we build chords around it. Other times it starts with a riff or a bassline. We’ll all add our parts drums, leads and it just grows from there. It’s a proper shared process. No one person writes everything, which I think helps.

Yeah, that balance usually makes for a stronger band.
Montello: Exactly, everyone’s involved.

What are your aspirations for this year?
Montello: World domination! [laughs] Nah, but seriously we just want to keep growing. Play as much as we can, get our music out there, and build a bigger following. Ideally, every person in the UK walking around in a Montello shirt…

I’ve actually seen quite a few Montello shirts around tonight.
Montello: Paid actors. Yeah, we hired them all!

Any festivals lined up this year?
Montello: Yeah, we’ve got Truck Festival coming up, and we’re playing This Feeling By The Sea as well. There might be a few more in the works too.

Any new music on the way?
Montello: Definitely. We’ve been recording and we’re back in the studio in a few weeks. There’ll be a lot of new stuff coming this year, just keep an eye out.

If you had to pick one thing you’d love to achieve by the end of the year?
Montello: A big support slot with a band we love.

Who are your main influences then?
Montello: It’s really mixed. Some of us are into indie stuff, others into R&B, artists like Raye and Olivia Dean. Then there’s guitar bands, older stuff, even Simon & Garfunkel, it’s all over the place. That mix is kind of what shapes our sound.

I’ve got to say, watching you live, you all looked completely at home on stage.
Montello: That’s what we love most, performing. It’s where we feel comfortable.

Finally, where can people find you?
Montello: Everywhere! Instagram, Spotify, YouTube. The main handle is @montello.band — and everything else is pretty similar.

Brilliant, thank you for your time, lads.
Montello: Cheers, thank you!
