Jonny Blade is a rising indie artist born Sunderland, but grew up in Sheffield whose journey into music began at just 14 with a ukulele and a love for the indie rock greats.

Inspired by bands like The Lottery Winners, The K's and The Reytons, he quickly moved from covers to writing his own music.

Following his supporting slot for Harriet Rose in Sheffield at Yellow Arch, we caught up with Jonny to find out what's next.

How do you think your supporting slot went today?
Jonny: I thought it went really well. Just having a good laugh with everyone. It was much more packed than I thought it'd be. I went after the gig, spoke to Harriet and they were all saying how packed it was, considering I was opening show.

Yes, so many people came down as soon as the doors opened! What was your favourite song that you played?
Jonny: I had a really good laugh doing ‘Lost Cause’ and ‘Christina’ as well, the slow one. That was really nice because everyone stopped to listen.

I thought so too, everyone was actually present in the moment from what I could see around me. What was your favourite moment, would you say?
Jonny: My favourite moment was probably messing the words up and seeing my dad's face because he's the only one that knows the words.

So, I see that family support to you is quite a big thing, and you had a lot of that in the crowd. What does it mean to have them in the audience for you?
Jonny: My mum and dad have been a massive support since I started the music. Without them, I wouldn't be doing it. You know what I mean? Driving me up and down the country. I've just come off the back my first ever UK tour, and my dad was driving us everywhere, getting the hotels. He does so much for me! Sometimes it maybe it looks like it goes on notice, but it doesn't. I'm not saying it to his face, that's why I say it to other people!

Who would you say your influences are, like musically?
Jonny: It’s all Indie mainly. I take little bits from Harriet Rose, a lot of inspiration for the slowest songs from her. I remember listening to a song she did about a month at that gig, and I was blown away. It was that really touching, it's little things like that, and then I'd probably say The K's and The Clause.

Have you got anything else coming up this year, shows-wise?
Jonny: I’m playing The Unground in Barnsley on the 28th of this month which I’m so excited for.

What would you like people to take away from listening to your music?
Jonny: Just someone you can connect with. I always try a bit of banter back and forth. I just want people to come out and think “He's all right”. If I could get one fan from every gig that makes me happy!
