Legendary Britpop band Suede played The Octagon in Sheffield on 13th February last night, and the show was nothing short of impressive from the get go.

In the support slot were rising stars Bloodworm, who delivered a high energy set full of rock songs, with a confident stage presence that won over the crowd instantly.

With the Sheffield crowd thoroughly warmed up, tensions were rising as we eagerly awaited tonight’s headliner, Suede. Looking around at the audience, it was clear this is a band with a strong following. They have a mixed generational fan base and a talent that has lasted through the decades.

As the music stopped and the lights lowered, it was the moment we had all been waiting for: Suede’s entrance.
Suede kicked off their Sheffield set with one of their newest tracks, ‘Disintegrate’, from their latest album ‘Antidepressants’, released last year. Despite being a newer track, this crowd had clearly done their research and were singing along to every line.

Frontman Brett Anderson had an immense amount of energy all night, running back and forth to each side of the crowd, pumping his fist to the fans and jumping on the speakers to get closer to serenading them. He never showed signs of faltering, just immense passion and energy for the music he has spent his life dedicated to.

The highlight of the night came during ‘Animal Nitrate’, a clear fan favourite that had both the crowd and Brett bouncing and belting out every line. Suede’s stage presence is clearly impressive and they have put the work in to become true professionals. As someone seeing them live for the first time, I was incredibly impressed and found myself more captivated with each track they played.

Another special moment for the entire crowd came during ‘The Drowners’. With the instrumentation stripped back and Brett’s bare vocals centre stage, the crowd swayed, holding and embracing one another.

Suede finished their Steel City set with ‘The Only Way I Can Love You’, a perfect, emotional and heartfelt way to close a terrific show.
