One of the UK’s newest and most exciting bands, Home Counties, played Hallamshire Hotel in Sheffield this week and they completely exceeded my expectations.

They set up their equipment and got fired up with each member having a pre show shot which was pretty iconic.

The lights lowered and the band made their proper entrance through the crowd, met with an array of cheers and clapping that gave them a real Sheffield welcome. In the crowd the fans were a complete mix of ages, demonstrating that this is a band who have clearly reached multiple generations with their sound.

Kicking off their set with ‘Take Me Home’ it was clear to see that both vocalists are incredibly talented and that their vocals complement each other so well. Their sound is groovy and it clearly affected the band too as they were grooving along with it. The passion from each member was obvious and they were clearly happy to be there as they said “We are buzzing to be back in Sheffield, even on a Monday.”

The band are not just unique because they have two vocalists leading their sound, but also because they implement the tambourine into many of their songs which is a pleasure to see making a comeback.

‘Funk U Up’ did exactly what its title suggests when they played it. The track is undeniably groovy and chic and it got
everyone vibing along with them.

At one point one of the vocalists whipped out a recorder which was interesting and unexpected.
The highlight of the evening had to be ‘Dad Bod’ where one of the vocalists pointed at someone in the crowd every time he sang the words “dad bod,” including at their tour manager which the crowd found amusing.

Throughout the evening the band came across as incredibly sweet and charming, even asking locals about their favourite Sheffield pubs.

Home Counties finished their set with ‘Uptight’ and I genuinely look forward to seeing them again.
