The Octagon hosted a stacked line-up on Saturday night, headlined by The Royston Club with support from Permanent (Joy) and FEET.
Through both support sets, each band emanated an incredible force of joy and energy, getting the Sheffield crowd thoroughly warmed up for the main act.
As the audience patiently awaited The Royston Club, the venue was absolutely packed, a sea of punters and pints, all eyes locked on the stage.
The lights faded to darkness, and then a beam of fluorescent colour illuminated the stage as The Royston Club appeared, ready for their show in the Steel City.
They opened with ‘The Patch Where Nothing Grows’. With a sound drawing on influences like Arctic Monkeys and The Smiths but stamped with their own swagger, the band delivered the track in a way that felt both refined and raw.
From the moment the first chords struck, the crowd a mix of long time devotees and newer fans responded with unwavering energy.
A special highlight of the night came with one of the band’s biggest tunes, ‘Blisters’, as the audience sang along to every line, showing just how much they adore it.
At several points, the band paused to soak up the reaction from the audience, who revelled not only in the big hooks but in the intimate moments of the set too.
During ‘A Tender Curiosity’ which saw Ben and Tom duet, the quieter and more introspective mood gave the crowd a moment to catch their breath before diving back into full throttle.
The band closed their set with ‘Cariad’, a song rich with layers and shifting sections, taking the crowd through dark lows and sweet highs in both tempo and lyric.
Even though they hail from Wales, playing Sheffield in a venue that knows its gigs means The Royston Club aren’t just ticking boxes — they’re making a mark.
