After a hiatus, Lewis Capaldi is back on the mic with his signature tongue in cheek banter and an impeccable singing voice which never falters.

As the Scottish Icon enters the Sheffield Arena stage, the fans let out a roar of excitement, giving him a special Yorkshire welcome, and more importantly a welcome back to the stage as a whole by his beloved fan base.

Night One of this massive nationwide tour kicks off with 'Survive', his latest release. It is my first opportunity to get to hear his vocals live and I can confidently stay that the studio could never do talent like this justice.

He sounds nothing short of incredible and it really is something to see, watching him shine centre stage and this adoring crowd belting every word back at him.

As track one comes to a close, it's a moment to reflect for many of us in this crowd. This young man looks so at home on the stage and he has overcome so much to play to fans over the coming months - what a brilliant individual.

It's key to mention the stage set up looks brilliant, simple but effective lighting on a paired back setting.

We move through more of Capaldi's hits such as 'Grace' and 'Bruises' which are evident fan favourites, but Lewis also introduces us to some of his unreleased new songs such as a debut of 'Almost', 'Something In The Heavens' and 'The Day That I Die', all beautiful with personal, raw meanings. It's clear to see his music is his escapism as well as ours.

Throughout the set, he constantly thanks us explaining "how special" it is to be back, and I think the crowd feel the same about this return. Despite all the emotional moments, he still continues with his charismatic, humorous energy that receives a chuckle from the crowd each time.

Overall, set one of this tour highlights that his greatness have overcome some of his darker moments and continues to shine through, and Capaldi will be a performer who will stand the test of time.
