The man who has been previously referred to from critics as ‘The Scottish Springsteen’ has an anthemic return with a song that highlights the never-ending merry go round of longing for someone - with a chaotic energy to suit. When asked about the record, Dovv stated that Desire, “written at La Sierra Casa with (my) good friend Stagboy, is a labour of love, born from the ache and beauty of wanting. It tells the story of what it means to feel deeply for someone, to live under the spell they cast, and to carry that feeling long after”.

Though the theme of yearning has been explored countless times in songwriting, It’s important to get your emotions across as each case of this is unique to the person writing it, and contradicts from the last story. Dovv's version feels raw and personal, contradictory yet sincere, reminding us that every love story, no matter how familiar, is entirely its own. But what also really elevates this track is his voice. It bellows, it hums, it’s a rare and powerful instrument that stands as a great weapon to have in his arsenal. ??His vocals don’t just complement the lyrics; they elevate them. Every word lands with clarity and weight, making it impossible not to feel the twisting and turning emotions throughout this track. This is summed up lyrically to perfection in the chorus - “I can’t stop this fire, burning my desire, I’m never over you”.

The instrumentals fit the bill perfectly. The constant chugging of an electric guitar and the driving drums throughout the track. The song drifts effortlessly between verse and chorus, with instrumentation dropping in and out, building and weaving through the cascade of emotions that Dovv expresses. It has the energy that can excel regardless of the stage; from sunny festivals, to packed out pubs, to sweaty clubs. This is a track that’s ready to theme any occasion.

You can hear Dovv’s influence oozing through the track, and it’s no wonder considering who he’s worked with. From Justin Hawkins, to Carl Barat, to Kyle Falconer. Dovv is working with some of the UK’s most celebrated songwriters. Dovv is building an excellent discography of tracks to arm his live shows. He and his band recently performed at the Isle Of Wight Festival and have a massive show at Derbyshire’s Ynot Festival coming at the start of August, not to mention a headline show at Edinburgh's Sneaky Pete’s on the 29th August, and performances scheduled at Glasgow’s iconic Barrowlands and the Royal Concert Hall, the rest of this year is set to be Dovv’s best yet.
