Phil Campbell is legendary in his own right as having been Motorhead's guitarist for 30 plus years until the demise of the band almost 10 years ago after Lemmy's death. In 2016, Phil formed a band with 3 of his sons, hence the name Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons.

Sons Todd on Lead Guitar, Dane on Drums, and Tyla on Bass join Phil on Rhythm Guitar, leaving room for the only non-family member Joel Peters on vocals.

The band have a decent discography under their belts in their own right, but tonight this crowd are here to see them do a full Motorhead set, if they can't get away with doing a 50th anniversary tour, then who else can? And as Joel says several times tonight, these songs need to be heard!

The band kicks in with Iron Fist, followed by Damage Case and Going to Brazil, and let's face it, there's only going to be one pace here tonight, and that's hard and fast. The band is tight, Phil has them drilled well, and the sound (as it nearly always is in this great little venue) is fantastic. Joel has a completely different delivery from Lemmy, and having no instrument to clutch, a lot more room for showmanship. He has a great voice and this crowd does not expect, or indeed want an imitator (it's an impossible task to fill the great man's shoes), he puts his heart and soul into the performance and does these songs proud.

Most of the crowd here tonight are of a certain vintage, and most of us I believe would have seen Motorhead back in the day, but there are a few younger kids here enjoying this performance too, who are being given the next best thing with this fine performance of a selection of Motorhead's greatest hits and misses!

Ace of Spades of course gets a run out and is fantastic, and is followed by the even better Killed by Death. Personal favourites Bomber and Overkill are saved for the encore.

Tonight these guys really have kept the spirit of Lemmy's Motorhead alive, let's hope we get a 51 years of Motorhead tour next year....
