GROOVE DOWN are an Edinburgh-based 5-piece band fronted by vocalist and lyricist Rue Cooper, whose second single ‘Somebody’ has recently been released. It is further proof that the outfit, whose aim it is to revive the Scottish capital’s funk and disco scene, is set to succeed thanks to a decidedly irresistible mix of multicultural musical styles.

Fellow band members are Joan Blasco on keys, Michael Falleman on guitar, Gregor Wilson on bass and Xabi Villares on drums. Ranging from influences as varied as funk, R&B, soul, disco, jazz and even gospel, the concoction works to great effect and the result is an electrifying and spirited tune which details the tale of two women falling for each other during a night out in a club and walking home together, only for trouble to arise the next morning.

Rue’s magnetic and clear voice draws you in right from the start and is perfectly complemented by high-energy riffs and a pulse beat which cleverly intersperses the lyrics. It’s sensuous but it’s also percussion-based and lends itself perfectly to groove to, either on the dance floor or in your own apartment.

This being only the second single, there’s so much more scope for GROOVE DOWN to shine and we can’t wait for the next release! Although ‘Somebody’ is an independent production recorded between Edinburgh’s College’s Milton Campus and producer George Batiste’s home studio, the band is set to go from strength to strength what with regular performances at some of Edinburgh’s live music venues.

‘Somebody’ is available for streaming on all music platforms. You can follow GROOVE DOWN on Instagram, Facebook or Website.
