Players is the name of the new group formed by soul veterans Mick Talbot, Steve White and Damon Minchella. This double A single is to be released on June 26 and is a suggestive musical affair. There are indications of clever ideas , talent and enthusiasm considering the diversity of the two tracks.
“No Big Deal” is based on a jazz hip-hop groove in the style of US3 with vocals by Kelly Dickson and is interesting with some good solo instrumental work even if the whole thing maybe doesn't swing as it should. More interesting is “Find Your Way” which is funk rock with nods to Hendrix and Sly. It sounds 70's but that is a virtue as these players are fans and this is a worthy ode to their hero's.
I wish this British funk/soul outfit well because so few bands seem to want to express themselves this way and with the connections involved in the band, a suitable niche in this pop world would be well deserved.
