The Colt 45 gave fresh meaning to the term jumping on the bandwagon. James (guitar vocals) and Jay (bass and backing vocals) jump, squat and shimmy with the enthusiasm that a fusion of Pete Townshend and Bruce Foxton would concoct. Opening with a rousing instrumental, and often sounding like a glam punk Small Faces, they proved the worth of gigging experience with a fluid, water tight set. Choose To Live, Rock ‘n' Roll, and the roof raising Dirty Love (surely a single in the making, and an indication of what may have happened if Steve Marriott had joined the Spencer Davis Group), were the musical highlights. Vicky's crisp snare, and precision crashes and rolls were locked so firmly in with the Jay's bass that Houdini would have struggled to prise them apart. That solid mainstay allowed James F to let himself go, climaxing in a theatrical Who style stance on the kick drum, back to the audience, in classic rock shape, while his four stringed cohort leapt to and from the bar. A dynamic sound and display that proves they belong among more illustrious company.
