“What really makes the film are the songs by Jack Johnson – the two fit perfectly togetherâ€, says D Harper (age 12) from the United States.
Well that's just great isn't it? ‘The two fit perfectly together'? Well what the hell would you know D Harper, you're twelve years old.
Having said which, the movie Curious George is an animation so I suppose it makes sense to get a twelve year old's opinion….hmmm….I've changed my mind – thank you very much D Harper, your point of view is valuable.
The movie, ‘Curious George' stars Will Ferrell as The Man in the Yellow Hat, and more importantly, Dick Van Dyke has stopped flying around in cars and solving murders long enough to do the voice for Mr Bloomsberry. The movie makers have presumably dug deep into their pockets to get Jack Johnson to do the soundtrack, and why not? He has a nice voice and an easy style. This single ‘Upside Down' is the first release and bobs along with Johnson's usual plucking, catchiness and fairly bawdy chorus. It will work well for an animated movie about a monkey, and probably have Mums and Dads and their kids remarking how the soundtrack and the movie fit ‘perfectly together'.
Quite frankly, the single is far from his strongest, but well done Jack, you've probably stuck a few quid into record label for doing it, and by all accounts you're now D Harper from the United States' new favourite singer. Him and his Mum's. And all his friends. Including the ones at swimming club. I will still put your CDs on in the background on a sunny day, but I doubt I will listen to them in quite the same way again. Still, not a bad single, a good movie soundtrack and so good luck with it. And that, as they say, is it.
