The first release since 2003's 'Golddiggas, Headnodders & Pholk Songs', 'Superbi' is the eleventh album from Paul Heaton's Beautiful South (including Carry on up the Charts and the Covers album). The inimitable boy/girl duets are ever present with Alison Wheeler on vocals for her third album. Lyrically Paul Heaton is sharp and succinct with the impulsive harmonies that have come to characterize The Beautiful South as in the tribute song ‘Manchester' the first single to be drawn from the album. There is also a relaxed country vibe on offer here as ‘The Rose Of My Cologne', ‘From Now On' and ‘Tears' are testament to. 'Superbi' was recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World studios, a farm in Bakewell and at producer Ian Stanley's place in Eniskerry. Bill Price (Sex Pistols, Clash, Guns 'n' Roses) was at the mixing desk. The release coincides with the 20th Anniversary of The Housemartins debut hit 'Happy Hour', my my how time flies.
