Something In Construction (label)
05 June 2006 (released)
15 May 2006
Something in Construction have only been around for just over a year, and they certainly have a wide selection of bands on their books. From Muse-Style Marc Bolanesque whigouts of Christiansilva to the RnB Hip Hop Stylings of Akira the Don via the Spiritualised-fused 69Corp. This offering is a 10-track label sampler - available for download 5th June - and as samplers go, its no better or worse than any other, but what lets it down is the “theres something here for everyone†approach which is purely down to the aforementioned wide range of band styles. For me the stand-out tracks are Christiansilva - Break From The Past, Damn Arms - Please Pass Me My Anti-Robotics and Other Passengers - Henry and an exceptionally catchy “Pet Shop Boys does indie†style pop of The Silent League - Kings and Queens, which I have to say is very good indeed, and caught me by surprise with it's huge-epic-quite-goodness(?)!!!?
(**Warning - cheesy pun ahead**) Obviously Something in Construction are starting to build a reputation in the industry its at the foundation level but moving on up (oh dear, that's quite terrible!). But a labels reputation rests purely on the type of bands it has to offer the world. Theres some good, some bad and some ugly!! I'm sure it'll make someones day, but what I have to ask myself is...do I feel (musically-speaking) lucky? Well do I?
Yes and no. It's not a cop-out it's just that personally this reviewer is not into everything on here. Still, I can only judge on what I've heard and I'm left with a hunger to check out some of the bands included here - which I guess is the general idea - but my appetite hasn't been completely fulfilled.
