The Oxfam Glamour Models ( a truly great band name) hail from Middlesbrough and talk the talk and walk the walk. They mean to start on the outside lane and they'll either hit their destiny in full throttle or crash spectacularly in the fast lane. The release of their first single on Marquis Cha Cha records called ‘Kick Out The Grams' is a slab of rock'n'roll, full of punk energy and wild mayhem. The production is magnificent, frenzied and spluttering, reminding me of the early ‘Magazine' singles.
The song tells the tale of bored youths ready to ‘coke it up' just to see “what the crack is!” It revs up and soars with its vocals sounding like a cross between Brett Anderson and John Lydon. The second track ‘Postmodern Stars' again deals with dilemmas of today's youth with a more controlled bass and guitar groove over some sharp guitar reminding me of an early ‘Skids' type song. There is blood and puke in the mix of this single, bound to create a fuss…..watch out.
