When your debut album drops and your latest single hits number four in the UK charts in a matter of days, it’s safe to say you’d be living the good life right? That’s what Sigrid told Glasgow’s Hydro Arena on Friday night during her support slot for George Ezra’s latest tour, Staying At Tamara’s.
Treating fans to a punchy 45 minute set, the Norwegian star delivered a selection of tracks from her latest release, Sucker Punch.
Revealing to Glasgow that she’d been up around Scotland visiting lochs and taking in the atmosphere, Sigrid was delighted to be back in city once again and this time with more material. An acoustic showcase of Level Up proved just how versatile Sigrid's voice was and that she can well and truly smash those high notes. After finishing the song she revealed how that was the first time she’d played that song on the tour.
Closing with her arguably best known song, Strangers, it was safe to say that Sigrid warmed up the Scottish crowd for the main man himself.
Two giant clocks appeared on the screens and once they struck 7am, the sound of Greg James’ voice could be heard waking up the nation and introducing George Ezra. Out ran the Budapest hitmaker and the stage revealed a living room setting equipped with lamps, big windows and lanterns. George and his band got to work straight away delivering Don’t Matter Now and Get Away, which showcased the most incredible brass section.
What stood out to me the most about this gig, is the level of audience interaction George had with the crowd. He would explain each songs origin and the crowd LOVED it. With Barcelona, George told the crowd that he set off on a trip to visit several places over the year in a bid to be able to write a new album, based on his experiences. He shared with the audience that Pretty Shining People came from his trip to Barcelona where he visited a mountain just outside of the city and Paradise which was sat as a voice note on his phone for so long, he didn’t know what to do with it.
Making full use of his surroundings, the stage lighting honed in on a grammar phone which began playing Did You Hear the Rain before George and his band joined in. The little intricate details made the show jump out to the crowd and definitely left an impression on our memories.
There wasn’t a moment out of place throughout the entire show and seeing a packed out Hydro Arena was absolutely stunning. After a brief stint off stage, the band returned alongside George to play Cassy-O and Shotgun, which has the entire venue up on their feet and dancing.
With two big names on the bill and a night of non-stop toe tapping pop tunes, if you have a ticket for the rest of the tour - you’re in for an absolute treat.
