Bubba Sparxxx's sophomore album ‘Deliverance' was something special. Produced by Timbaland, it looked at life in rural America, mixing country and hip-hop perfectly. It was lauded by the hip-hop elite, but ignored by the public.

Gone is the delightful eccentricity and ingenuity that characterised his previous work, ‘Ain't Life Grand' declares: “I'm getting sick of banjos and the fiddle shit.†Bubba is determined not to have another flop: “My name rings bells / But it means not a thing if it can't bring salesâ€, he raps on ‘Represent'.
However, Sparxxx's quest for commercial success may have failed. The rapper has leapt from being too different to being too formulaic, even for the masses. The album is filled with rote, unforgettable beats; frankly, the record is boring. Bubba seldom sparks, and when he does it is still very average hip-hop. ‘Ms. New Booty' is infectious, but too forced. ‘Wonderful' is fun, but uninspiring.
The only thing that partly saves the record is Bubba's distinct lyrical skills, but faced with such a dire production, they are a boat with only one paddle.
