Sarah Darling released one of 2017's finest albums. So fine in fact that she has become something of a Country icon here in the UK, going down a treat when she surprised fans with an appearance at last weekend's Country2Country. Currently working towards her biggest ever UK tour, we caught up with Sarah to see how she found 2017 and what she dreams of in 2018.

2017 - what will you look back on most fondly from the year?

Putting out “Dream Country” was a fulfilling experience in my book. I always wanted to write the type of music that brings a little light to the world. This album is a fond memory process, and I can’t wait for 2018.

Did you make any new year’s resolutions at the outset of 2017?

I’m so bad at this, but I would like to write a cookbook this year. A very big resolution!

What was the biggest lesson you learned in 2017?

Always trust your instincts! They prove to lead you in a good direction.

What was the musical highlight of 2017?

Musical highlight was touring the UK with friends Michael Logen and Jenn Bostic. It was honestly the most life changing adventure with music and friends!

Who are you excited to hear from in 2018?

I’m always excited to see what Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves are up to! Two of my favs.

Tell us about Dream Country?

“Dream Country” is an album I wrote really as self therapy. They are my stories of chasing my dream and the challenges I faced along the way. I love how it’s connected to others as well. I always feel like real connects most.

If you had to pick three artists to be filed next to, who would they be and why?

Alison Krauss- She’s got the voice of an angel, and I love that pure tone
Karen Carpenter- Her voice was like crushed velvet. So warm I just want to listen to it all the time.
Sarah McLachlan- She is also quite heavenly, but writes songs about a lot of the same things I do. I adore her and her style.

What inspired the record?

The record was truly inspired by the process of dream chasing. I feel like you just can’t give up! It was my way of convincing myself to keep going.

If the record were an animal, what animal would it be?

Such a fun question. I’m thinking a snow Owl! I’ve been watching a lot of Harry Potter recently.

Define your sound in five words…

Magic, Ethereal, Dreamy, Real, Earthy

If you could jam with one artist alive or dead, who would it be?

I would have loved to have played “Wildflowers” with Tom Petty

If you could have written one song by another artist, what would it be?

“The House That Built Me” by Miranda Lambert

Someone is making a film of your life, who will play you?

Kate Winslet

Lastly, tell us one thing you have never revealed in an interview…

I’m obsessed with French cooking! I am such a foodie and secretly want to have my own cooking show one day.
