In case you haven't heard of Chris Brown, his self-titled debut album helpfully includes an intro to him as its first track. The gist of the track is then repeated at the start of several others while proclaiming him to be 'the future of new RnB'. While there is no doubting that the sixteen-year old is talented, whether this is enough to fulfil his self prophecy remains to be seen.

Following the intro, the album kicks off properly with a high-energy track which sounds not dissimilar to Usher's 'Yeah'. From here, it then moves between the kind of numbers you'd expect to hear on a crowded weekend dancefloor and those that are better suited to an altogether more chilled environment the day after.

Just as the album moves between these different musical sounds, so Brown appears to swerve between a touching innocence and not quite so endearing arrogance. At times, you almost get the impression that he still can't believe he's achieved so much and needs to remind his audience who they are listening to in case they forget. And is it a coincidence that the last song is called 'Thank You'? It would be nice to see a little less of this and let the music speak for itself.

Overall though if Brown carries on as he's begun, he could be set for great things.
