Vanessa Eve's story is one of drug problems, an abusive father and living on her native streets of Melbourne aged 16. Add a childhood spent listening to the likes of The Pixies and Hole, and the potent, fierce punk is as authentic as you'd imagine. Backed by a tight British rhythm section, the result is razor sharp, crisp and frighteningly honest. Unsurprisingly Eve uses her alarming experiences as the catalyst for the power tunes. Life on the streets, being abused by a trusting figure and the perilous grip of heroin are covered in candid glory on tracks like My Way and Scream. Recent single Gutter Girl rocks and explodes with purpose and swagger, while the 47 seconds of Catherine is a clear opening shot of frenetic intent. Kiss Me (Mickey) is a must listen, if only for the drum intro/vocal line. Despite the hard edged subject matter, and the general ‘fuck you' attitude throughout, there's a tender vulnerability simmering under the raw surface - Dream Hair and Sleeping Beauty revealing that softer side.
